TraceX is an iOS-based platform that empowers individuals to do their part in protecting themselves and the community by enabling digital COVID-19 contact tracing through a simple yet powerful interface. The app uses short-range, low-energy bluetooth signals to log the anonymous keys of nearby users who have been in close proximity for several minutes. Users can voluntarily report their current status as healthy, having COVID-19 symptoms (but not tested), or COVID-19 positive (received positive test results).
Currently, the app works optimally when at least one user has the app open in the foreground (the nearby phones can be in background) due to Apple restrictions on Bluetooth broadcasting. We plan to incorporate Apple and Google's API for Bluetooth-based Contact Tracing once released to the general public so we can address this limitation. TraceX sends anonymous notifications to users if they are exposed someone having symptoms or recently tested positive for COVID-19. As of May 2020, TraceX is undergoing rigorous beta-testing, and we hope to officially offer version 1.0 on the app store by the end of the month.
TraceX uses no personal information and requires no user login. Location access is never required and all contact events are encrypted and stored locally on your phone. All notifications are anonymized.
TraceX allows users to report their own current health status. Because all exposure notifications are anonymous, the community relies on TraceX users to be responsible in reporting their status honestly in order to protect those around them.
TraceX notifies you of exposures to people who are symptomatic, COVID-19 positive, or asymptomatic but later tested positive. Each notification is timestamped and can be viewed on the app so you know how long to self-quarantine and what symptoms to look out for.
